What is mentoring?
Mentoring & business advice can be described best by providing examples of our work:
Working with owners/managers to help them set up a system to manage their business - what information do you need and how do you get it to know how your business is really doing!
Reviewing the costs of a business and using the information to determine if you are charging the right price to be able to stay in business
How do you market your business? Do you need to change or improve your business profile?
Is your current business structure the right one for your needs? Do you need to change from a sole trader to a limited company (or the other way around)?
Providing an overview of your legal obligations as a small to medium-sized business
Helping clients to prepare and implement a business plan
Support for mentoring
As we mention in the column to the right, financial support for mentoring can be provided through enterprise agencies. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact us.

Mentoring & Business Advice
At Meehan Tully & Associates Ltd., we understand why clients look for help in the first place; to find a solution, and see our role as facilitators to the client in finding the best way forward. We possess the expertise to answer many of their questions and, just as importantly, provide the necessary contacts with enterprise and community development agencies who can assist the delivery of advice and mentoring supports.
County Enterprise Boards
Much of our mentoring work is carried out on behalf of County Enterprise Boards (CEB's) in counties throughout the region who refer clients to us or who facilitate clients who have contacted us for mentoring support. Mentoring is a very flexible form of support that is available to all types of clients, including those who have not yet formally started their business, and has proven to be very helpful to our clients over the years. |
| Sectors
Our mentoring and business advice clients vary in size and business sectors, including people in the pre-start up phase (before formally entering into business), small businesses and multi-nationals trading in Europe and the US. A very brief list of some of the sectors we've worked with is provided below. |
Childcare
We've worked with a large number of childcare providers and agencies throughout Ireland. These have included private and public childcare providers, who have required mentoring and business advice on marketing, how to manage, pricing, business planning, customer service and employment legislation.

Creative Industries
Working with enterprise and development agencies, we've provided mentoring services to the arts and crafts sector throughout the Northwest. This has included support in time management, costing, pricing, marketing, sourcing and business planning. We've also worked with a number of arts and crafts clusters in providing support to people in the start-up phase.

Food Sector and Farmers Markets
We've provided a range of mentoring and business advice to those involved in farmers markets. One the one hand we've provided business advice to those supplying the markets (food and non-food) and, on the other, we've provided strategic planning support to those involved in organising the markets themselves. |
Manufacturing
Manufacturing firms have always played a significant role in the economic development of the North West. As a result, we have worked extensively with manufacturing firms throughout the region. The support we have provided has included management development support for individual firms and strategic planning, marketing and training needs analysis for engineering clusters.

| Clients
Two brief examples of clients with whom we currently work are provided below. |
Meadow Miniatures
Meadow Miniatures are a family business based in County Sligo. They combine nature's gift of real flowers, and sterling silver to create a unique range of hand made, real flower jewelry
We began working with them about three years ago on a CEB mentoring assignment to help them re-structure their business. At this stage they had already built up their name and had established a market base, mainly in the UK, but were eager to identify ways to consolidate and expand their business. We worked with them on ways to heighten their profile, review their costs and price their products. Today they are selling their products throughout Ireland and the UK, and have established a strong market base in the US. Their profile in the US has been improved dramatically recently through numerous successful appearances on the QVC shopping channel.
